2 Day Solaris Fundamentals

We recognise that it's difficult to take an entire department away from their duties for a week, but most companies can survive with a 2 day outage of key staff. On this course we ask the client to tell us which modules they require from the activities below. The price of this on-site 2 day Solaris 10 fundamentals course for up to 8 people is £1500 + VAT.

This 2 day Unix Fundamentals course (based on the Solaris 10 operating system) provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to use components of the desktop system: manage files and directories, create and modify files, control the user's working environment with initialisation files, archive files using zip and tar, and use the Berkely remote commands, rcp, rsh, rlogin.

In addition, the course explains fundamental command line features including commands, options and arguments, file system navigation, the vi text editor, file permissions, command shells, file compression, and basic network use. There is also a session on grep, sed and nawk.

Most importantly, the link between the Unix editors, regular expressions, grep, sed and nawk is explained in detail.

There is an extended module on the Korn Shell outlining its efficiency as a productivity tool which has made it the de facto shell of choice among Unix users. There's also an explanation of the Bourne shell, C shell and the Bash.
